Collage reflection

Music has played a big part in defining who I am one the years. I included albums like Kodak Black’s Painting Pictures, Kanye West’s Life of Pablo, and the Wu-Tang Clan’s logo to represent the first type of rap music I ever listened to on my own time. I’d always hear  it on the background of things but when I started listening around the age of 12 it really made me realize that these songs aren’t just about drugs, money, and women, it was about a lifestyle that was so rich and unobtainable to the listener it was like listening to dreams of someone who made it and how you can to if you gave it your all. Kodak’s album Painting Pictures was the most influential for me because it was also the music I listened to when I still played outside with my friends not knowing it would one of the last times. For Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly introduced me to 2000’s rap and how it helped shape what the next regeneration we listen to now. Kendrick is now considered one of the greats but still disliked by many but I found a licking to his raspy voice and countless true stories he tells.

The other albums like, 21 Savage’s, Savage Mode II and I am> I was symbolizes my new taste in rap as I begin to mature and enter high school. I never liked 21 Savage like I do now, I guess I never realized that good songs are often not the popular ones. For the singles like A$ap Rocky’s Babushka Boi and Pop Smoke’s Make it Rain show what I listen to now and my change of artist from Kodak, Kanye, and Trippie, to bigger names like A$ap Rocky, Pop Smoke, Drake, and 21 Savage. Not that I don’t like them anymore it’s just I never knew of the gems these other artist made thats always been there yet I’ve never taken the time to really listen to them like I did Kodak’s for example. Also, Future’s High off Life represents my new liking for the new generation of artist he often calobs. With like Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, and Young Thug, which I never imagined myself liking but now I can’t go a day without listening to one of them.

I added the Nike and OU. Symbols to show what type of things I wear now. I showed the Apple logo and the Steam logo to show the type of technology I use. This meaning I play computer games now and I have lots of Apple products for other things like home computers, phones, and earphones. The four flags represent my heritage and my current nationality. I come from a line of blue eyed, blonde, Spaniard descendants of Mexico, rural dark skinned, brown eyed, and dark haired more Native Mexicans, and some American blood and of course me which is the first in many generations to be born and live in the United States. The Yorkie on the top left is meant to show my dog Coco to whom I adore and his laptop is just to represent computers. The X-Wing in the bottom right shows my liking for Star Wars, the older ones not anything made by Disney other than the Clone Wars season 9 and The Mandolorian .

What I learned from the Website 2-3 paragraphs

Motion blur is created because the camera “sees” the subject move. So, to capture motion blur a longer/slower shutter speed is required. How slow the shutter speed is needed to be depends on how fast the subject is. You don’t need the same speed to capture a snail blur than a race-car blur. One is just way faster than the others so the faster requires less speed where the snail may require a longer shutter speed. Using shutter priority may also help to better capture a well exposed photograph. But, controlling the ISO to be lower allows for higher shutter speeds.

When using longer shutter speeds a lot more light is taken in due to the shutter speed allowing so much light to get in. So, some methods are created to compensate for this. Proportionally making the aperture smaller to the length of the shutter speed helps block out more light but requires you to be in manual or pro mode instead of shutter priority. Choosing shorter ISO’s help to access higher shutter speeds due to the camera being less sensitive to all the light allowed in from the slow Shutter speed.  Natural Density Filters also allow for lower shutter speeds and is the equivalent of putting a sunglasses on your camera.

Photography video 2

This episode was to capture a fashion photo for an ad campaign using a different model and dress for each photographer. The photographers in this video were Jimaya, Roxy, Scott, and Chris. Jimaya won the competition with the photo of his model with a green dress on the window. The lighting was great and it showed of the green dress beautifully. Emily Soto was the professional photographer that watched closely with everyone’s preparations. Pamella Roland was the guest judge which was the designer for most of the dresses. Chris ended up losing. He was the least experienced and knew little to nothing about fashion. He was disqualified because his photo was too sexy for the judges, it wasn’t selling the dress and showing off the model in it. The designer judge said that it wouldn’t be something would chose because it looked so enticing.

Photography video 1

This video was all about studio photography with Miles Chamely Watson a professional fencer that is over eight foot and an Olympic Gold Medalist. The purpose of the photo was to capture the essence of the sport and capture an action photo. Roxy ended up winning this competition with her photo of Miles mid-air with the background containing much more than the backdrop and really capturing Miles in the action of his sport. They had pro photographer David Bergham as a second judge. He also watched closely in the photography room and critiqued harshly but fairly amongst the photographers. Andrew was eliminated because of his inexperience with sports shooting. The photographers in this episode were Roxy, Jimaya, Scott, Andrew, and Chris.

Framing a subject

1. I believe I do have a strong composition when I was framing the little Chavo head because I made it stand out against the all black chair and although the entire photo is in focus which I couldn’t fix he still stands out and is eye catching. When I showed my mother the photo she smiled because I made the little character stand out much like how he did in his show. She recognized the symbolism in that he is a bright light of funny things and hope amongst the dark reality of the children show. Also it can show he still makes people smile despite his actor now being deceased. On the little blue camera photo I also think the composition was good because the blue against the light green background made the subject stand out and the natural frame complimented the subject because they’re both light colors of different contrast.

2. I believe I edited the photos to the best of my ability because I’m a noob at Photopea but I did what I could with the filters and contrast to better attune the photo. I also used an app to help with taking photos which really helped in the blue camera photo. For the second photo I cropped out some distracting background which really helped make the photo that is the little head against the black background. I wasn’t able to edit much about the photo because the only thing that would really change is the subject and I wanted the subject to stay nice and bright/colorful because I really didn’t want to make it black and white because I wanted to keep the symbolism I stated earlier. I believe I edited the Blue photo well because before it was obnoxiously blue and a lot of the left side was still in focus but thanks to photopea I was able to change that.

3. I would go outside to take more photos if I was to do this assignment again.

4. I think at least one of my photos should make it to the page on Edublog’s but I’m not one to put my work above others I’d rather other people do the judging.

File formats

  • JPEG – This is the file format most digital cameras use to quickly store photos that are compressed into a smaller size so the camera can fit more photos inside of the storage.
  • TIFF – This file format does not compress the photo at all and doesn’t sacrifice any pixels or any image quality because this file format keeps the image as large as it needs to be. This format gives the most quality and is the most commonly used in the industry
  • RAW – This format is the choice of professional photographers because the image isn’t changed at all automatically and retains all the features from the original photo. It is however a huge file size so going through many hard-drives is expected when using this.
  • DNG (Digital Negative) – DNG was created by Adobe to create a new RAW standard because there was just too many for the softwares to process and after a while not every software is able to process all the different RAW types. DNG is also used to convert old unaccessible RAW photos into the standard.
  • PNG – This format was created in the 90’s for internet use which is perfect because although it is compressed it saves in small sizes and loads quickly on online forums.
  • GIF – These files are ideal for online use, use 256 colors, and allow for animations to take place. Similar to the PNG but with a limited color palette.
  • BMP – BMP was created by Microsoft for use on the Windows platform but is now used by other systems like Mac. It’s purpose was to have a large file size and save color per pixel without compression creating high quality digital images without compression. This is great for print but not for digital use.
  • PSD – A large file format that is used to edit individual layers in the photo. This is used for extensive use of editing on the photo but once the photo compresses all the layers together it cannot be un-done.
